SUBJECT:       Creation of Pitt Computer Account

 

 

            This is to notify you that your Pitt Computer Account has been created and is ready to use.

            You should change your password as soon as possible by logging in at http://my.pitt.edu; the system will ask you to change your password the first time you log in. Pitt requires faculty and staff to change their passwords every six months. 

 

EMAIL

            Your Pitt email address is your username followed by @pitt.edu.  This email account is your official Pitt email address.  While you may also use another non-Pitt email address, central Pitt offices and other users of Pitt's email system will be sending to this address.

 

READING YOUR EMAIL

            Pitt mailboxes are on the Microsoft Office365 system. You can access your Pitt email with a web browser by logging in at https://my.pitt.edu, typing Pitt Email in the search box at the top, and opening the link to Pitt Email

            You can also use email packages such as Outlook or AppleMail to read your mail. For instructions, go to http://technology.pitt.edu, click on Services at the top, then scroll down to Microsoft Office 365 at Pitt, then Read Email on Your PC

 

MAILBOX QUOTA

            Office365 gives you a mailbox quota of 50 Gigs.

 

SPAM/VIRUS FILTERING

            Incoming spam and virus emails are diverted to a quarantined location separate from your mailbox.  Your Pitt mailbox will be sent a notice once a week listing the spam email that's arrived since the last notice.  To check these emails yourself, log in at http://my.pitt.edu, then type Spam in the search box at the top, then open the link for Spam and Virus Filtering.
