There are multiple ways to create a new page. You can create a page through the Page Manager for Editors, or you can create a page by clicking the Pages button in the black ribbon bar at the top of the page. The method to use is a preferences choice. Go to the Stage website (ignore the warning screen and continue on to the site) and practice both methods before trying to create a new page on the live website.

Method 1 - Create a New Page through the black ribbon bar Pages button

  1. Log in and go to the webpage where you want to create this new subpage.
  2. Click Pages and select Add New Page from the dropdown list.
  3. Fill in the following fields and click Update Page when done.
    1. Page name – This will appear in the URL and at the top of the page.
    2. Page title – This will appear in the title of the tab or browser window. It will also appear in search results. Page titles have a naming convention that you should use: [page name] | [Dept if applicable] | Pitt Public Health | University of Pittsburgh
    3. Description – Synopsize the page’s content in 1-2 sentences. When a person uses Google and the page appears in the results, the description will be that short line or two of text that appears below the page title.
    4. Keywords – Add 5-10 keywords about the page’s content. Properly filling in these fields will improve search results within DNN and SEO for external search engines.
  4.  Select whether the new page should appear before or after the page.
  5. If the page should appear in the left column menu, leave “Include in Menu?” selected.
  6. Click Add Page. The new page will appear.

Method 2 - Create a New Page through the Page Manager for Editors

  1. Go to the footer of www.publichealth.pitt.edu and click Web Tools. Log in and go to Page Manager for Editors
  2. Highlight the webpage in the list where you want to create this new subpage.
  3. Right-click and select Add Page(s)
  4. Type the page name(s) into the box. If adding more than one, follow the directions on the screen. Click Add page.
  5. Highlight the new page in the list, fill in the following fields, and click Update Page when done.
    1. Page title – This will appear in the title of the tab or browser window. It will also appear in search results. Page titles have a naming convention that you should use: [page name] | [Dept if applicable] | Pitt Public Health | University of Pittsburgh
    2. Description – Synopsize the page’s content in 1-2 sentences. When a person uses Google and the page appears in the results, the description will be that short line or two of text that appears below the page title.
    3. Keywords – Add 5-10 keywords about the page’s content. Properly filling in these fields will improve search results within DNN and SEO for external search engines.
